More than 1,200 Accrington Stanley shirts have been given away to local primary school children at the Wham Stadium.
The entire Reds squad were there to meet the Year Three pupils as they arrived, and hand them an official home shirt in the McMurrays Haulage and Bowland Brewery FanZone.
Each school then made their way to the Studio.co.uk Eric Whalley Stand to have their photograph taken with the League Two trophy.
There were plenty of smiles as the children were encouraged to be proud of the connection between the community and football club.
It is the second time the club has invited the youngsters to the stadium to receive their shirts. Stanley chairman Andy Holt said: “In February this year Accrington Stanley Football Club gave away free shirts to every Year Three pupil in Hyndburn.
"As chairman of the club, I made the decision to do this to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the current reformed club (1968-2018), though our history dates right back to 1888!"The original day was a huge success and I committed to the shirt giveaway for the next five years. With the help of Scott Dawson Advertising through their #AmazingAccrington initiative, and the support of the Accrington Stanley Community Trust, we have again invited schools to bring along all their Year Three pupils to the Wham Stadium for a free shirt.
"Being outside and active was day-to-day life for me as a young boy growing up. In more recent years there's been less of an emphasis on community sports for children.
"We even arranged free transport for schools, with thanks to Pilkington Bus, Moving People and Cranberry Coachways.”
The number of children getting enough physical activity has dropped by 40%* and Holt, along with Accrington Stanley Community Trust, are eager to increase this figure.
The Community Trust deliver sport and education programmes to over 15,000 local people every year and their primary aim is to help make a difference to the community.
The club will also be releasing a batch of free tickets for all home games at the ground until the end of the season and goodie bags for all children attending.
