Dan: We need to be more clinical

25 November 2018

Dan Barlaser knows Stanley have to turn on the style on Tuesday – and be more clinical.

The Reds face 12th place Wycombe on Tuesday night at the Wham Stadium with the Chairboys one of the in-form teams, they have chalked up four league wins in their last six games.

Tenth-placed Stanley are on a run of five league games without a win and Newcastle loan midfielder Barlaser admitted yesterday's 1-0 defeat at Rochdale hurt.

“In the first half, we dominated the game and we looked like the only team who was going to score," said the 21-year-old. "The chances we have made, on another day it could have been two or three to us in the first half.

“We haven't scored and at half-time, the gaffer said we needed to be careful as, if they get a lucky goal we could lose this game, and obviously that's what happened, it's sloppy marking from us and their lad has just nodded it in.

“We still we had chances in the second half but we just couldn't score.

“We need to start winning, that was basically what was said in the dressing room after the game.

“We start most games very well and always work hard for each other. We need to be more clinical, I think we need to score early. If we had scored those early goals at Rochdale, the game would have been done but that didn't happen.

“Tuesday is a massive game to get this game out of the way. It didn't go our way and hopefully we can get a good result on Tuesday and forget about this.

“We want to bounce back as quickly as we can.

“The league is tight and I think if we win on Tuesday we are back up there. I wasn't here last November/December but people have been speaking about a run of games without a win we went on last season.

“We need to end it and get a couple of wins under our belt.”
