Painting and Decorating students from Accrington and Rossendale College have given Accrington Stanley's home a new coat of paint.
With the paint being provided by Dulux, the students supplied by the college and the mammoth task at hand, it's been an exciting few weeks for those taking part. Joinery students from North Lancs Training Group, who are also trained at Accrington and Rossendale College, helped on the timber repairs.
Totalling hundreds of hours of man power, the project on the club's offices is now complete. Stanley manager John Coleman presented the students with a signed and framed photograph of the team winning the league to thank them for their efforts.
“We are really grateful to the college and the students," said Coleman. "The club very much needed a fresh coat of paint and it looks great now it's finished!
"The students were at the club for a few weeks and have all worked really hard. It's not an easy task, but they also appeared to have fun.”
A Painting and Decorating student from Accrington and Rossendale College said: “It's really exciting to be here, Stanley have just made history and I feel like I'm part of that.
"There are not many times you get the opportunity to take part in things like this, especially as a student, so I am really grateful to the college. The course is brilliant and preparing me well for work – plus now I have this awesome job to put on my CV too!”
The Painting and Decorating course at Accrington and Rossendale College is offered as an apprenticeship to allow students to follow a vocational learning path.
Phil Burgess, Deputy Head of Construction at Accrington and Rossendale College, said: “We try to get students out in to the local community as much as possible as it's important for us to offer them real-life work experience. It is an essential part of their course to be as prepared as possible for work life. Sometimes fabulous opportunities like this come up too.
"I would like to say thank you to Accrington Stanley for inviting us to take part, and also to Dulux for supplying the paint. The students are now even more excited by their trade and have increased their employability, life skills and ambitions!”
