McConville signs new deal

30 July 2018

Sean McConville has signed a new improved three-year deal at Accrington Stanley - and believes he is at the top of his game.

The 29-year-old wideman had one year left of his current contract but this weekend signed a new deal which will keep him at Stanley until 2021.

There has been interest in McConville from other clubs over the summer, but he has committed his future to the Reds.

"I had one year left on my current deal, with a year's option, but as soon as we were promoted the club made it clear they wanted to offer me a new deal," said McConville.

"There was interest from other clubs but this club has shown a willingness to want to keep me, they have always shown faith in me and hopefully I have paid them back by signing this new deal.

"I feel I play my best football under the management here and it wasn't a hard decision to stay here and hopefully we will have another season like last season."

McConville was at Stanley from 2009-2011, helping the Reds to the play-offs before they lost to Stevenage.

He re-signed in 2015 and was part of the squad which missed out in the play-offs in 2016-7 but scored 13 goals last season as Stanley won the League Two title - and the winger also chipped in with a large number of assists.

"Since I have been here I have become a better person both on and off the pitch, I have matured and I believe I am at the top of my game," added McConville.

"It's a special club to me, it's a close band of players and I can't wait to have a look at League One this season and have a good go at it.

"Hopefully committing my future to the club will encourage others to do the same as well."

Mark Hughes, Ross Sykes and Erico Sousa have also signed improved deals with the Reds this summer while Danny Williams and Scott Brown have signed new contracts.

Stanley have so far added Will Wood, Piero Mingoia and Sam Finley to their squad.
