Food for thought for Coley

26 July 2018

John Coleman says there is plenty of  'food for thought' for the new season - thanks to adding a nutritionist to his management team.

The Reds play their final pre-season friendly on Saturday against Championship side Blackburn Rovers as they look ahead to their Sky Bet League One opener at home to Gillingham on August 4th.

Coleman says that his Stanley squad are now raring to go - especially with the added ingredients to his team.

"A big focus in pre-season has been on nutrition," said Coleman. "We have brought in a fitness coach who is big on nutrition called Ryan Roberts and the lads have really bought into it.

"They have taken on Ryan's methods and they are focusing on what they are putting in their bodies more."

After beating Huddersfield and Middlesbrough in their previous two Wham Stadium summer outings, Coleman expects another tough test from Tony Mowbray's side.

"They had a terrific season last  season and have some fantastic players. We played their 23s in a behind-closed-doors friendly recently and it was a tough game which we lost 2-1 so we know this will be a step up from that.

"Tony has done an unbelievable job at Blackburn and it would be nice to see them back in the Premier League."

Coleman is still on the hunt for players and still has high hopes of signing four players ahead of the Gillingham game.

"I am still after two strikers, a defender and a goalkeeper and I am hoping to do some business in the next week.

"It has been frustrating as you want to take players on loan from higher up the pyramid but their clubs want to see them for longer so you have to be patient."
