PREVIEW | Gillingham (H)

3 August 2018

The Sky Bet League One season is within touching distance, and Stanley will be looking to start it with three points against Gillingham.

The Gills visit the Wham Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 3pm, for the Reds' first fixture in the third tier since 1960.

The Reds are unbeaten in 12 games at home in 2018

Steve Lovell's side finished 17th in League One last time out, failing to win any of their first seven league games, but are unbeaten on the last three opening days.

Stanley boss John Coleman has not lost on the opening day since 2009, drawing four and winning two of his last six such matches.

The Reds have won just one of their last five league meetings with Gillingham, with two draws and two defeats, losing the last meeting between the sides 1-0 back in 2013 (League Two).

The previous three games between Stanley and Gillingham at the Wham Stadium have produced 20 goals, including a 2010's 7-4 victory for the Reds, the most goals Stanley have ever scored in an EFL encounter.

Gillingham's Elliott List and Josh Rees will miss out as manager Steve Lovell confirmed earlier in the week. Tom Eaves has an ankle injury and while he could travel with the squad he may not start.

Conor Wilkinson and Alex Lacey will be assessed ahead of kick-off.
