McCall problems: Coley

30 August 2018

John Coleman admits he doesn't know quite what to expect from Scunthorpe United on Saturday after Stuart McCall took charge this week.

Nick Daws, who led the Iron to the Play-Offs last season, was dismissed after five games of the new campaign with Scunthorpe in 18th place.

Saturday will be former Bradford boss McCall's first game in charge and Coleman admits that throws up its own problems.

“I like Stuart, he is a good manager and a good person and it will be good to lock horns with him on Saturday,” said the Reds boss.

“We started our homework on them earlier on this week and that could go out the window with a new manager.

“We are concerned with their personnel though and how they are likely to play but we know we are a match for anyone if we play well.”

Coleman admits his side's start to their League One campaign – their first in the third tier of English football since 1960 – has been ‘acceptable.'

“We are in eighth place and have eight points from the opening five games. I think ‘good' would be averaging two points a game.

“But we are getting into a new rhythm, we have a few new faces and I think we will know after 10 or 12 games how we will cope in this league.

“The attackers are a little bit quicker in League One and more ruthless so we are mindful we have got to defend better.

“We haven't quite clicked yet, on Saturday at Blackpool we were good in parts but then we made mistakes in others but when we hit the heights of last season, we will win more games than we will lose.”
