We can't wait for Saturday: McConville

10 April 2018

Sean McConville admits it will be the 'biggest achievement of his career' if Stanley win promotion to League One.

The 29-year-old has been involved in two play-off campaigns with the Reds, in 2011 and 2016, where Stanley have lost in the semi-finals.

But the winger is hoping to put all that behind him and seal promotion on Saturday - the first time in Stanley's history they will win promotion to the third tier of English football - by beating fourth placed Exeter.

"It would be the biggest achievement of my career, no doubt about it," said McConville, who has scored 12 goals this season.

"You sit down in the summer thinking the plan is to get promotion, you hope it will happen and then to actually be on the verge of it is a phenomenal achievement.

"It's been a collective effort, from the players, to the management, to the physio, the fans, the kitman Naz Ali, the groundsman, Buzzer, everyone behind the scenes.

"But I have been in football long enough to know nothing has been achieved yet. If we don't win on Saturday, the pressure moves to Tuesday, then to the next game and on and on so we want to do it as soon as possible."

McConville certainly won't underestimate Paul Tisdale's Exeter who are also going for automatic promotion.

"They beat us at their place, they are a form team so we know we have to be on top of our game. We have to respect them but we also want revenge. We are all excited, we can't wait for Saturday to come."
