Seamus Conneely praised the club's supporters after Accrington Stanley were crowned champions of League Two on Saturday.
Jordan Clark's 35th minute goal, his ninth goal of the campaign, was enough to seal both victory and the league title as the Reds beat Lincoln City 1-0 to guarantee top spot - six points clear of Luton in second with one game left to play.A record crowd of 4753 people were at the Wham Stadium to witness history being made, and the club captain was quick to thank the supporters after lifting the trophy.
“To see how much the fans have enjoyed this season just adds everything to it,” said Conneely during the celebrations. “They have been truly fantastic all year.
“The supporters have come out in their numbers and the crowds have increased all year as word got around that we play a style of football that's pleasing on the eye while getting good results as well.
“The atmosphere they create is simply brilliant and hopefully we will see them all here next year and give them plenty to cheer about again.”
The 29-year-old was part of the Stanley squad that narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to League One in the 2015/16 campaign.
There was no such heartbreak for the Irishman this season, after promotion was secured with four games remaining.
“Lifting the trophy is a different feeling to the promotion,” said the former Republic of Ireland U21 and U23 international. “Promotion was more of a relief to get it done.
“When you look back on your career you look back at the things that you've won, and for a lot of the lads this is the first time they've ever won a medal.
“Promotion was fantastic, but to go up as champions is just incredible. This is such a great feeling to be going up as the number one team in the division.”
