John Coleman is looking to extend Accrington Stanley's strong home record as his side entertain Grimsby Town tonight.
The second placed Reds have lost just once in the league at the Wham Stadium in 2017 – to Luton in April – and Coleman hopes to extend the run against the 19th placed Mariners.“We have always said we need to make our ground a difficult place to come to and we need to keep this run going,” said Coleman.
“We have probably got one of the best pitches in the league, I think it's in the best condition since I walked through the door in 1999 and that helps our style of football.
“Last year our home form blighted us but we have had good signs this season that our home form is strong and we have to keep working on it.”
Stanley are the top scorers in all four divisions with 14 goals in their six league games so far.
“We are the leading goalscorers and we have not scored more than three in a game which shows they are being shared out. We have got to strive to keep doing that.
“The important thing is the points per game ratio and the goal difference. If we keep a healthy positive goal difference we will be there or thereabouts by the end of the season.
“That's one of the first priorities. We are still missing chances but we are taking enough at the moment.
“We are not going to get carried away with being second in the league, I think you only get a truer reflection after 10 or 15 games.
“We have got to strive to stay where we are, or even go one better, but we are not going to think we have arrived and everything is rosy, we know there are still areas we need to improve.”
