John Coleman won't under-estimate non-league Guiseley tomorrow as he knows what it feels like to be on the end of an Emirates FA Cup upset.
The Reds travel to the National League side in the first round for a 2pm kick off.
“I remember I was a player at Morecambe and we were playing Maine Road,” said Coleman. “It was 1-1 at half-time, I had scored on the stroke of half-time, and I had gone in at half-time shouting at the other players to not sit back and not believe it would be an easy win.
“I knew if they got another goal, they would win and they did just that. It took me about a month to get over, I was still arguing with the other players about it weeks later.”
As a manager he admitted the replay loss to Worcester City in October 2005, where Andy Preece scored two late goals to beat the Reds, also sticks in his mind.
“That was hard to take as well, I have been on the end of a being beaten by the underdog as a player and a manager and we have got to make sure it doesn't happen tomorrow."
Guiseley, 20th in the National League, have recently gone full-time and have a number of ex-Reds in their squad, including winger Lee Molyneux."I know Molly well, he is a great lad, a good footballer and he has fared well when he has played against me so let's hope that's not the case tomorrow," said Coleman.
"I want to win every game and if we don't win, I won't be happy.
“We had a good run to the fourth round last year and we want to replicate that again.
“It's hard when you get knocked out and the next round comes about and you are envious of teams getting in the spotlight and having their moment of glory. You get an empty feeling and we want to avoid that.
“I have watched Guiseley a few times and it will be difficult. Their players will raise their game, the adrenaline will be flowing, there will be a bigger crowd and the TV cameras will be there and it can create an atmosphere you can thrive. We have to make sure we are prepared for that and be at our best."
Captain Seamus Conneely is expected to have overcome a groin strain which kept him out of last Saturday's league win over Barnet.
