5 November 2017

Accrington Stanley were held to a 0-0 draw at National League side Guiseley following an entertaining FA Cup First Round clash.

Both sides had their chances with Mike Fondop going closest for the home team and Stanley creating a number of chances but John Coleman's men couldn't find the crucial breakthrough ensuring that the sides will meet again on Tuesday November 14 for a place in the Second Round.

The home side looked to impose themselves early on and Sean McConville and Billy Kee found themselves on the end of two crunching tackles, from the second Stanley should have taken the lead, McConville found Hughes who nodded down for Jackson on the edge of the six-yard-box but the striker couldn't keep his effort below the bar.

Stanley continued to create chances in the opening exchanges, Ben Richards-Everton saw his header cleared off the line before McConville was released by Kayden Jackson but the his low strike took a deflection that just sent it just wide.

Guiseley grew into the tie as the half went on, Mike Fondop's header trickled inches wide of Aaron Chapman's far post but their best chance fell to Jake Lawlor inside the area, the defender got his head to the ball and sent it towards the top corner but Chapman done superbly to get one strong hand to the ball and beat it clear.

The second period was a slow burner with the first real chance coming when Fondop flashed a half-volley wide of the post in the 65th minute before a superb reaction save by Jonathan Maxted down the opposite end prevented Palmer from turning Jordan Clark's ball into his own net.

Kee thought that he'd stolen it with four minutes of normal time remaining when he met Janoi Donacien's cross on the half-volley but the forward couldn't keep his effort below the bar.
