Coley: Guiseley will be tough

13 November 2017

John Coleman knows Stanley will have to be at their best if they are to beat National League side Guiseley tomorrow in the FA Cup First Round replay.

The two sides drew 0-0 at Nethermoor Park with the winners tomorrow - with extra-time and penalties on the cards if it's a draw after 90 minutes - facing a trip to Mansfield in the second round.

“We will be the favourites and some people may think it's a foregone conclusion and that they had their chance at home but it doesn't happen like that, I know that,” said Coleman.

“We have to be better than what we were at Guiseley, but there is no guarantee we will be, and we have to strive to be better and play our game.

“We have to stamp our playing style onto the game, we have to be more positive and play in their half.

“Guiseley didn't surprise us at their place, they were big and strong, they worked hard and it was a difficult game.

“Their game plan was more effective that ours on the day. They made more chances that us but the more clear cut chances fell to us.

“They asked a lot of questions, they put a lot of balls into the box, there were a lot of long throws but we dealt with them.”

Guiseley manager Paul Cox used to manage Mansfield which will give them an extra incentive tomorrow night.

“I didn't watch the draw as our next game in the FA Cup is Guiseley at home. People may think Guiseley have a bigger carrot as their manager used to be at Mansfield but my drive is to win any game we play.

“If we beat Guiseley we have boost our coffers, which can only help us.”

A few players are battling knocks from Stanley's goalless draw at Cambridge but Coleman hopes everyone will recover to be in contention.
