Stanley v Huddersfield

12 July 2017

Stanley begin their pre-season campaign tonight with a big opening game against Premier League bound Huddersfield Town.

David Wagner's side come to the Wham Stadium as they prepare for life in the top flight after winning promotion in the Championship play-off final.

It promises to be an exciting way to kick off a run of four home friendlies and Reds manager John Coleman is under no illusions about how hard this opening assignment will be.

“This will be a big test for us,” he said. “We didn't do ourselves justice against Huddersfield in a behind closed doors game last year and that was by no means their strongest side so we know that we'll have to be on our game.

“We know that generally when we play at home against bigger sides we generally perform and we want that to happen again.

“We obviously know they have good players because they're about to go into the Premier League. We feel we have good players and are a good side too and can test them. I always want to win games, regardless and Wednesday will be no different. People can talk about friendlies but they are games and you need them so we'll make the most of it.

“I think it's important to get the lads used to playing here. We were hampered last season by not playing a lot of pre-season games that really tested us. That's why I'm really looking forward to this year because it's a very different story.

“There's no substitute for playing games at this time of year. Our main aim in pre-season, which should be everyone's aim, is to get into optimum condition for the first game of the season. That's what we're hoping to achieve.”

Kick off at the Wham Stadium this evening is 7PM with admission prices £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and just £1 for accompanied under 12s.
