Southport 0 Stanley 5

29 July 2017

Billy Kee scored a first-half hat-trick as a rampant Accrington Stanley rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 win at Southport.

Manager John Coleman had called for his side to build momentum ahead of their season opener against Colchester next week and he will have been delighted with the clinical performance they produced.

Stanley scored four goals in the opening 22 minutes to blow their opponents away, before Kee completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark.

It took just 12 minutes to break the deadlock, when new strike duo Kee and Kayden Jackson combined well on the edge of the area, resulting in Kee rifling an effort beyond Iain Turner.

Moments later the forward bundled home his second, before captain Seamus Conneely made it three with a fine strike from the edge of the area.

Southport defender Adam Dugdale was unfortunate to turn Jordan Clark's cross into his own net, and then Kee completed his hat-trick in the 32nd minute to make it 5-0 at the break.

The scoreline would remain that way as the flow of the second-half was interrupted by a host of changes, with both managers looking to give their squad valuable playing time ahead of next week's curtain raiser.

Sean McConville went close for Stanley but the best chance of the half fell to the home side as Liam Martin forced substitute Aaron Chapman into a fine save, tipping his ferocious effort onto the bar.

Attendance: 474.
