Coley wants win

27 July 2017

John Coleman is looking for his side to build momentum ahead of the new season by winning their final pre-season fixture at Southport on Saturday.

Stanley kick off their League Two campaign next week, at home to Colchester United, and the manager believes the game with the National League North side will provide his men with a valuable test.

“We'd like to get a win under our belts,” said Coleman. “It's our last game of pre-season so we want to be finalising the way that we play, that's not necessarily the starting line-up but the style of football that we want to implement.

“Training this week has been good, we've had double sessions and the lads have worked really hard, I think they're buying into the fact that they need to be fit to suit our style of football.

“It will be a tough game, Southport have had a good pre-season and it's never easy to go and play away from home. It's important we get another 90 minutes into a few of the players' legs and hopefully we get the win that builds momentum towards Colchester.”

Sean McConville became the fourth member of the Stanley squad to sign a new contract this summer and Coleman's happy to have the future of a key squad member secured.

“It's pleasing that he [McConville] has committed to playing his football with us,” he said.

“Sean had a really good season last season, he's become a very consistent performer and his experience is vital at this level.”

Kick off at The Merseyrail Community Stadium on Saturday is 3pm, with tickets priced at £8 for adults and £5 for concessions.
