Strong squad for Imps clash

5 December 2017

John Coleman is hoping the Checkatrade Trophy clash at Lincoln tonight will also act as a boost to their promotion battle.

Stanley lost their last league clash at rivals Exeter but remain in third place and are in the last 64 of the Checkatrade Trophy.

Due to their FA Cup exit, the players had the weekend off but the full focus is now on Stanley remaining in the trophy and continuing their strong league form.

Promoted Lincoln are 10th in League Two and also were without a game last weekend.

“We do not want to dwell on Exeter but we have got to learn lessons from it,” said Coleman. “I have had a few days off from the players which I think will do both of us the world of good.

“Sometimes you have to take a step back, we are third in the league and we could have put a seventh point cushion if we had won at Exeter but it hasn't happened and you have to deal with it.

“What we have shown this season is that we can bounce back and we have got to make sure we do it again.

“We have had time off and we could get rusty and what we want to do is make sure we get our form back from the previous weeks.

“The players are disappointed, they are keen to put it right and I will put a strong squad out for Lincoln, as we did at Wigan in the last round.

“In this competition, we have scored goals which will give confidence to players and the players want to get back on the horse and start performing.

“You have to be realistic. Accrington are not going to get to the final of the FA Cup or the League Cup but a number of League Two sides have made the final of the Checkatrade Trophy at Wembley.

“We believe we are one of the better teams in League Two so why not us?”
