Hughes extends stay

2 August 2017

Mark Hughes has signed a new one-year deal with Accrington Stanley, with the option of a further year.

Hughes becomes the latest player to commit his future to The Wham stadium, joining teammates Seamus Conneely, Janoi Donacien, Jordan Clark and Sean McConville in putting pen to paper.

The defender, who made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, will remain at Stanley until at least 2018, with the option for a further year in the club's favour.

The 30-year-old came to the club from Stevenage in 2016 and says: "Towards the end of last season the gaffer told me he wanted me to stay for another year and for me it was a no brainer to sign.

"I've enjoyed my time here and played some of my best football over the last couple of years, it's a friendly club from top to bottom, the chairman's fantastic and it's great to be part of a club like this.

"We've got a strong core of players here and hopefully we can kick on from last season. It's been a tough pre-season but I've enjoyed it and we're all looking towards getting promoted, we know that we've got a squad good enough to achieve it."

Hughes and his Stanley teammates kick off the new campaign at home to Colchester United on Saturday.
