Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell believes Saturday's opponents Portsmouth are a good example of how good performances are ultimately rewarded.
Pompey are second in the table ahead of their trip to the Wham Stadium despite failing to win their opening four matches in all competitions.
The Reds picked up a win at Notts County on Saturday after their own slow start to the season in the league and Bell believes they can now go on a similar climb up the table.
“This is a results orientated game and results are what breeds confidence," he said. "You only have to look at Portsmouth. In the first few games of the season people all over the place were calling for heads but their performances haven't changed, they've been consistent but they just weren't getting the results.
“Now they are getting the results and people start asking why. I think we have a bit of that at the minute. We've been playing well and threatening to get results but not getting them but then had a good result at Carlisle and a win at Notts County and everyone thinks something has changed. All that's changed really is that we've got a couple of good results.
“They are second in the league and going well. I've watched them a lot this week and they've got some momentum and those results to build on. That breeds confidence and sometimes teams see that and sit back and give you a bit more respect.
“Portsmouth have done well but I honestly believe that we can match them in all departments and I can see a very good game. They're a good team and we know a lot of the players and the staff, who have been here and gone on to Portsmouth."
The former Stanley management team of Paul Cook and Leam Richardson return north as do a number of former players including Tom Davies and Adam Buxton who swapped one club for the other this summer.
But Bell doesn't think the links will make the game any different.
“Portsmouth have certainly looked to Accrington to enhance their squad and their staff and they seem to look at our results and take a few of our players but as far as rivalry goes there isn't one on our behalf. If Portsmouth want to use the word rivalry to get their players up then it's totally up to them but it's another game for us and we just want to build on our momentum."
