Josh Windass said scoring on his return to the Stanley side was ‘the best feeling in the world.'
The frontman last played for the Reds on January 2nd and has sat out the last two months following a double hernia operation. He was back in the starting line-up for the 2-0 win at Newport yesterday and fired home the important second goal - his 12th of the season.
“It was a relief,” said the 22-year-old. “I knew I was in the team on Sunday and the gaffer said to try and get 60 minutes in me so to get through 70 minutes was quite a big deal.
“I have been working hard, I have been out for a couple of months and it's just a relief to get back on the pitch.
“Before the game you are obviously thinking about scoring on your first game back and the first goal – through Billy Kee – was a great goal.
“Then Piero (Mingoia) has got down the line and I have seen Piero going to pull the ball back so I have tried running in front of their man and thankfully I have got there first. It's the best feeling in the world.
“I have been wanting to get on the pitch for the months now so to score was brilliant.”
Windass was also keen to show the Stanley fans that he is 100 per cent behind their promotion push – despite having signed a pre-contract agreement to join Rangers in the summer.
“I am just glad to prove to the Accrington fans that I am here to help them get promoted," he added. "I want to give my all, score as many goals as I can and it would mean everything if we can keep winning and secure automatic promotion.”
