Jimmy Bell admitted the Reds are still hurting from the Portsmouth loss – but he hopes they can take it out on Saturday's opponents Plymouth.
Stanley lost 3-1 to fellow promotion-chasers Pompey on Tuesday and they need to bounce back against the third placed Pilgrims if they are going to continue their challenge for a top three spot.
“We never turned up on Tuesday,” said the Stanley assistant manager, as the Reds slipped down to sixth in League Two with a game in hand on most of the teams around them.
“It was over by half-time and everything we had worked on for the game, such as pressing, just never came off.
“There were too many players not at it for whatever reason and you can't carry three or four players while their players played like their lives depended on it.
“In the dressing room there was a lot of disappointment and anger but that's what you want to see as it shows they care and it means something.
“We all want to get as high up the league as we can and we now have to make sure that it was just a blip.
“We have to analyse it, dust ourselves down and go again.”
Bell admits it is frustrating time as Stanley have picked up two points out of the last 12 but he knows the performances have deserved more.
“Apart from Portsmouth, our last few performances have been quite good. Yeovil could have gone either way, Barnet we played well and went 2-0 up against a physical team but then we let it slip and Wimbledon we showed a lot steel to keep a clean sheet.
“And when you look back to our performance at Home Park earlier in the season, even though we lost, it was our best performance of the season by a country mile.
“If we can turn the performance into a win, then we will close the gap on Plymouth. We also want to put it right after Tuesday's performance, especially in front of our fans.”
