Praise for Ross: Coley

28 March 2016

John Coleman hailed keeper Ross Etheridge after Stanley celebrated a 2-0 win at Newport County which moves them up to fourth spot.

Etheridge pulled off a stunning save to deny Jake Gosling before Stanley scored two quick fire goals from Billy Kee in the 35th minute and Josh Windass two minutes later.

It means the Reds have kept three clean sheets on the bounce for the first time since April 2011 - when Stanley last made the play-offs.

"The defining moment was the save from Ross," said Coleman. "That kept us in the game and then two quick-fire goals have settled our nerves.

"After that we knew they had to throw men forward and we had opportunities to pick them off on the break but it didn't happen.

"The clean sheet was mainly down to Ross."

Coleman also praised returning Windass and Kee who has now 17 goals and 13 assists - at 30 Kee has contributed to the most goals in the top four divisions.

"It shows how crucial Billy is to us," added Coleman. "He was excellent again while it was a fantastic finish by Josh, you know what you are getting with Josh and we brought him off as a precaution although he said he felt fresh.

"You have got to give our lads credit as they have battled on week in week out. We have had points pinched off us this season but they have never let it dent their confidence and enthusiasm.

"Some results have gone our way today and some haven't but all we can do is keep battling away."
