Matty Pearson is happily helping to keep clean sheets at one end – but is gutted he isn't making a bigger impact at the other end.
The defender is part of the Stanley backline which has kept three shut-outs on the spin, something which last happened in April 2011 when the Reds last secured a top seven spot.
But, in the 2-0 win at Newport, the 22-year-old felt he could have had a bigger say at the other end and added to his three goal tally for the season. Instead Billy Kee and Josh Windass were the goal heroes.
“Newport was a massive win for us and keeping a succession of clean sheets is something we have been banging on about for a while,” said Pearson.
“But I should have scored a couple at Newport. I missed with a header – an absolute sitter - and someone has played me through a bit later and I have shot and should have scored then.
“Then, for the opening goal, the ball has come to me and I have put it in the right area and Billy has shown me how to do it!”
While ruing the chances that have got away for him, Pearson is not surprised that the fourth placed Reds are keeping the pressure on at the top of the table with six points over the Easter period.
“We have built up good momentum, everyone is growing into their own positions and we all know how each other works. We are just clicking and it's good to see.
“We have good competition and now having Josh back is like a new signing and Terry (Gornell) as well - they are all good players.
“It all seems mad at the moment – but we have just to keep going and it will be a great achievement if we do go up.”
