Shaw extends contract

29 July 2016

Brayden Shaw has agreed a one-year contract extension at Accrington Stanley and admits it's a massive season for him.

The 19-year-old winger came to Stanley in January last season after not having his contract renewed at Bury.

He made his debut at Oxford in February, coming on as a substitute, and, with his first touch, hit the crossbar with a shot.

“I still look back at that and think, if only I had scored – it would have been my first league goal with my first league touch and even the gaffer still mentions it to me.

“It would have done my confidence the world of good but now it's about looking forward.”

Darwen-born Shaw made four appearances for the Reds as he was in and out of the squad that narrowly missed out on promotion to League One but now he says it's all about cementing his place.

“It's a massive season for me with Piero Mingoia leaving. There is a vacancy on the right and the gaffer has said it's up to me to take it.

“It's up to me to get into the starting XI and make an impact. There has been a lot of changes over the summer but we are all up for it.

“My aim is to get a run of games in the first team, gain some confidence and hopefully celebrate that first league goal.”
