The Dutch Diaries - Day Ten

11 August 2016

Scholars Reagan Ogle and Jack Randell give us an insight into day ten of their pre-season tour to Holland...

Today we were given a longer lie in today as breakfast was pushed back to 10am. We had a busy day lined up with the tour of the Ajax ground and a little walk around the streets of Amsterdam for a spot of site seeing.

The tour of the Ajax stadium kicked off the trip to Amsterdam, this lasted around 90 minutes with plenty of stoppages for the lads to take pictures. It was good to hear about the history of the club and the amount of titles they have won and learning how the three stars on their shirt represent the the titles.

We also learnt about the top quality players that Ajax have produced, such as Johan Cruijff, Dennis Bergjamp, Frank Rijkaard, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert. We also learnt about that the Dutch always wear orange because of the King that rules and his last name being orange. The 3 crosses that are everywhere comes from the 11th century.

We had three hours to walk around Amsterdam city center. It is an interesting city, full of different cultures and it was then good that we got to see the lifestyle of the locals. We also got to see some of the sites that Amsterdam is well known for. The day was a great experience for us all.

We all picked up some lunch before meeting the coach back to the hotel, a good day all round with all of us getting through the day safe and sound. Everyone spent the evening relaxing ready for tomorrows training session with the NAC Breda coaches.
