Buxton's thank you to fans

4 August 2016

Defender Adam Buxton has today signed for Portsmouth - but wants to thank everyone at Stanley for their support.

Buxton originally came to the Reds on loan in 2014 before signing a permanent deal at the Wham Stadium in that year.

The former Wigan trainee had spells in and out of the team over his two-and-a-quarter years at the club as he battled injuries. He came back into the side towards the end of the last campaign as the Reds just missed out on automatic promotion.

He has spent pre-season with Stanley but has now linked up with Pompey.

Buxton has asked to thank the people involved during his time with Stanley.

He said: "I would like to thank the various managers I have worked with at Accrington, my fellow players, former chairman Peter Marsden and current owner Andy Holt along with the fans for the support everyone has given me during my time at the Wham Stadium.

"I have loved every minute of my time at Accrington, initially coming on loan and earning a full-time contract with the club. I have been honoured to play for Accrington Stanley and that's why I am leaving so late in pre-season - it's a hard club to leave.

“I had a big decision to make when Portsmouth got in touch but it is too big an opportunity to turn down. I wish everyone at Accrington all the best and hope they can achieve promotion this season.”
