John Coleman said his players were 'sensational' as they overcome Hartlepool 2-1 to move into second spot with three games to go.
Seamus Conneely and Tariqe Fosu were on target as Stanley, at the very least, secured a play-off spot.
"I am delighted for the players," said Coleman. "We could have sulked after conceding against the run of play but we never let our heads go down.
"I have been a manager for 20 years and I don't think I have managed a better first half performance. We were sensational.
"I told the players to play like Tottenham did last night and they did. They showed energy, they were making chances.
"I was disappointed we conceded and I would have liked the second half to be more comfortable but they never really troubled us.
"We are no longer counting down the games but counting down the hours and it's four-and-a-half hours between us and what would be an unbelievable achievement for this group of players."
