Josh Windass says he and his Stanley team-mates know they have to bounce back after the 2-2 draw with Morecambe.
The Reds dropped to fourth place despite extending their unbeaten run to eight games with the point at home to the Shrimps.
Windass scored two – one from the penalty spot – to take his tally to 14 goals for the season but he knows they need all three points at in-form Hartlepool tomorrow night.
“We have to win tomorrow night as Bristol Rovers do not seem to be slipping up, Oxford obviously lost on Saturday and we are still in the mix, but if we win at Hartlepool we would be in a more solid position.
“We did believe once we got into third place we would stay there and we still have the belief we can still do it but we have to go to Hartlepool and get three points.
“They are flying and it will be a hard game but we need to win.”
Windass was happy to get his two goals and wants to sign off in style with a promotion at Stanley.
“I wasn't playing well up until I scored and then my performance picked up but we were under the weather after the game as, no disrespect to Morecambe, but we should have beaten them judging where they are in the league and we are.
“We all made mistakes in the game but we should have won it as we had around four shots cleared off the line in the final minutes.”
Windass signed a contract with Rangers in January to link up with the Scottish club in the summer but was disappointed that people questioned his commitment to Accrington.
“I was annoyed that people would think I didn't want to play for Stanley. I am a professional and I am selfish in that I want to do well for myself and therefore want to do well for Stanley. It would be massive to have a promotion on my CV as you don't often get the chance to get promoted so you have to make the most of it.”
