Josh Windass was delighted with Stanley's win over league leaders Burton last night – and an end to his wait for a goal.
The 21-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the first half as the Reds ended a 13 match unbeaten run for the visitors.
It was a 36th Stanley appearance for Windass, who admitted that finding the net was long overdue.“It's been weighing on my shoulders loads and I spoke to my dad and others about it,” he said. “They've just been telling me to keep going and finally I've got it. Hopefully I can get a few more now.
“I hope that I can get more and that Terry (Gornell) can keep scoring too. Since we've been playing together in the last few weeks we've got a good partnership going and hopefully that can carry on.
“I just saw the ball come over the top and I know Terry's been getting a load of those recently. It just came off his chest and I've hit it first time and I have no idea where the keeper was because it wasn't even in the corner but I'll take that all day!
“It's a great win. To beat the side top of the league at home is great. I've been waiting for that goal for a long time and finally it's come now.”
A terrific team performance following a change of formation led Stanley to victory and Windass felt it was a deserved three points.
“You could see why Burton hadn't been beaten in a long time. They're very organised and very good at what they do but I felt on our first half performance and our defensive display in the second half we deserved the win.
“We had Piero and Kal at wing back and I don't think either of them have ever played there before but they were both magnificent. Defensively they did well and the whole team as a unit were brilliant.
“There were no individual mistakes really and even when someone got something wrong someone else was backing them up. In recent weeks we haven't been able to get everyone pressing and everyone doing their jobs at the same time but we all seemed to be on the same wavelength tonight.”
