Premier test for youth team

14 December 2015

Accrington Stanley's stars of the future will aim to see off Premier League Crystal Palace at the Wham Stadium tomorrow night in the third round of the FA Youth Cup (ko 7.30pm).

The Under 18 Reds have already overcome Basford and Fleetwood and now aim to emulate their run of two years ago where they reached the fifth round.

Nathan Webb, Roman Hickey and James Wolfenden are three of the youngsters involved in that 2013/4 run who will play tomorrow night.

"We are excited about it," said Head of Coaching Dave Fitzgerald. "It's a big test for us in Premier League opposition but it's a great opportunity for our players to express themselves and show off their talents."

Webb has scored five goals so far in the first two rounds while Hickey is the Stanley youth team captain.

"Webby is in a rich vein of form," said Fitzgerald. "He was out with a minor injury around six weeks ago but he is back to full fitness and the whole team are raring to go. It's hard to single one player out.

"There is a lot of talent in the side, there are a lot of good players and it would  help them to have a good crowd cheering them on at home.

"Two years ago they beat the likes of West Ham so it would be great for us to claim another Premier League scalp."

Admission is £5 adults and concessions; £2 for Under 17s.
