Preview: Notts County (A)

The FA Cup takes centre stage for Stanley this weekend with a trip to Notts County tomorrow.

Ahead of kick off, the official website has all the information you might need:Stanley turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend with a trip to the East Midlands to take on Notts County.

After a return to winning ways against Morecambe last Friday the Reds will look to extend a three match unbeaten run away to the League One side.

County sit in a play-off place in the third tier and will be looking to get through a tricky tie against a side from a division lower.

The prize for victory is £18000 and a spot in Monday's second round draw.[/vc_tab]

New recruits Jack Rose and Craig Roddan both go straight into the Stanley squad for the tie after signing yesterday.

Nicky Hunt is suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season against Morecambe, with Anthony Barry still out injured.

Loanees John O'Sullivan and Sean Maguire are both unavailable after being refused permission to play by their parent clubs.

Kal Naismith has returned to training following his compassionate leave but his fitness will be assessed before a decision is made on whether he can feature.

Notts County are without Forest loanee Stephen McLaughlin who is ineligible and defender Louis Laing is likely to miss out through injury.[/vc_tab]County have spent six of the last ten seasons in League Two, with the other four seasons being spent in League One. They gained promotion to League One in the 2009/10 season when they won the League Two title.

They have then spent the last four seasons in League One and finished in 20th place in the table last season.[/vc_tab]

Shaun Derry

36 year old Derry is in his first managerial role, after being appointed as manager in November 2013.

Prior to being a manager Derry enjoyed a successful playing career, making over 500 appearances for a number of clubs including Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and Notts County. He also had three spells at Crystal Palace and made 198 appearances and scored three goals for the club.

Garry Thompson

33 year old Thompson signed for the club in the summer and has made an excellent start to his time with County, coring five goals in 10 appearances.

Thompson started his career at Morecambe and made 291 appearances and scored 56 goals for the club between 1999 and 2008. He then signed for Scunthorpe United and made 173 appearances and scored 20 goals between 2008 and 2012, before moving to Bradford City, where he made 85 appearances and scored eight goals for the club before moving to County.

[/vc_tab]The two clubs have met once in the FA Cup before, with County running out 4-1 victors in the 2011/12 season. Karl Hawley scored twice and Alan Judge and Alan Sheehan also netted, with Luke Joyce scoring Stanley's consolation.

Stanley's only ever victory at Meadow Lane came in the 2009/10 season in League Two, when Michael Symes and Jimmy Ryan scored for Stanley in a 2-1 victory with Lee Hughes scoring for County.[/vc_tab]Stanley are unbeaten in three matches following wins over Hartlepool and Morecambe and an away draw at Newport County.

County have made an excellent start to their League One campaign, currently sitting sixth. They have won three, drawn two and lost three of their eight home league matches so far this season.

Their last home game was against Walsall, with County losing the game 2-1. Garry Thompson scored for County, with Walsall's goals coming from a Gary Jones own goal and a Tom Bradshaw penalty.[/vc_tab]

Mark Heywood (Cheshire)

Not to be confused with fellow official Mark Haywood who recently took charge against Newport, Mr Heywood has been on the Football League scene for the last five years.

His last Stanley game was the 1-1 home draw with York on Boxing Day.

Notts County have played at Meadow Lane since 1910, with the current capacity of the ground being 19,588.

The clubs record attendance came in 1955 in the FA Cup 6th round when 47,310 saw Notts County take on York City.
