Beattie Relaxed About Rochdale Trip

14 March 2014

James Beattie believes his Stanley players have nothing to fear when they make the short trip to Spotland to take on high-flying Rochdale tomorrow.

Dale sit third in League Two but are without a win in their last two games and they were beaten by bottom club Torquay in midweek.

And Beattie thinks his team can bring home the three points if they keep their cool.

“Hopefully they can continue their run and we can continue ours!” he laughed. “It's going to be a tough game. We had a great result there last season and everyone is buzzing about going there again. That's the kind of atmosphere I want here but when we start working the lads are dedicated to that work.

“The best platform for these lads is to remain relaxed, not get too excited or irate and that will give them the atmosphere to produce their best football.

“One of the players we're lucky to have back this season is Lee Molyneux. He got two goals there last time and if he can repeat that we'll be ecstatic.

“We've looked at the game in midweek, we'll assess how the lads are in terms of fitness and I'll be picking a team to go at Rochdale and try to get the result.”

Beattie's men have already defeated league leaders Chesterfield and drawn 0-0 with play-off hopefuls Hartlepool in the last seven days and the manager feels they can continue that good run tomorrow.

“We're happy with the points haul so far,” he explained. “We got a great result on Saturday and backed it up on Tuesday with a battling performance in a totally different game. I was pleased with that point and we just needed that bit of extra quality.

“We've worked hard on the defensive aspects of the team, getting back into our shape quickly, and I think that's shown in the small number of goals we've conceded recently. We always know that we have the players going forward who have that bit of quality.

“The spine of the team is so important but the competition for places remains exceptional. If people show me in training that they can produce special things then they'll get their chance in the team and I think we've seen that in the last few weeks.”
