Stanley Futsal Qualify for National Cup

10 January 2014

The wait is finally over! Today at FLT Futsal headquarters, Accrington Stanley Futsal found out who their opponents will be at the Soccer AM Cup Tournament.

The Soccer AM Cup is a new format for Futsal this season, which allows the top 4 teams in each of the seven regional leagues to qualify and be seeded into pots depending on league position midway through the season. Having qualified in 4th position, through the FLT North West Division League 1, the Reds were seeded in pot 4.

With the competition taking place at the Birmingham International Futsal Arena, the draw has pitted the Reds in Group 1 against Conference side Hereford United, along with Championship sides, Reading and Derby County, with the top two from each group qualifying for the last 16.

Sport Development Officer and Futsal Coach Chris Mullen explains “it's a good draw for us. Playing a range of different teams from across the country will allow the lads to experience playing against different formations and styles and is well deserved for all who have put in a superb effort in the first half of the season”.

Futsal Education Officer Allan Phillipson adds “We've worked hard on getting the lads ready in preparation for the competition and hope it allows for them to enjoy and celebrate their good first half of the season. We will now be pitting their abilities against the best of the best that other futsal programmes have to offer”.

Good luck to all of our Futsal Scholarships and fingers crossed for a top two finish to make the last 16!
