Preview: Portsmouth (A)

12 December 2014

Stanley return to league action tomorrow with the long trip south to take on Portsmouth.

Ahead of kick off, Chris Forsyth has all the information you might need:After a week where the FA Cup has understandably taken centre stage, Stanley now turn their attentions back to League Two with a trip to Portsmouth.

The Reds were defeated by Exeter on their last league outing and will be looking for a return to winning ways at Fratton Park.

Pompey are only ahead of Stanley on goal difference and after no FA Cup action at the weekend have had to wait two weeks to bounce back from a defeat to Tranmere.[/vc_tab]

Midfielder Andy Procter is Stanley's main injury concerns as he battles to get over a groin strain sustained in the FA Cup draw with Yeovil Town. Manager John Coleman says the 31-year-old won't be risked if there's any danger of making his injury worse.

Fellow injury absentee Adam Buxton continues his comeback and the majority of players suffering with illness last weekend have fully recovered.

Loan pair John O'Sullivan and Sean Maguire both come back into contention after being ineligible for cup action last time out.[/vc_tab]Pompey have spent six of the last 10 seasons in the Premier League. They have also spent two seasons in the Championship, one season in League One and one season in League Two.

Pompey were relegated from the Premier League in the 2009/10 season after finishing bottom of the table. They then spent the following two seasons in the Championship before being relegated in the 2011/12 season.

Pompey then had a solitary season in League One as they suffered back to back relegations after finishing bottom of the League One table. Last season the club finished in 13th place in League Two.[/vc_tab]

Andy Awford

42 year old Awford is in his first full time managerial role after taking over the club in May. Awford has also had two spells as caretaker manager of Pompey. His first spell was at the end of 2013 and he then took over again in between March 2014 and May 2014 before being appointed on a full time basis.

Prior to being a manager Awford played for Pompey between 1989 and 2000 and made 313 appearances and scored three goals for the club.

Danny Hollands

Hollands signed for the club from Charlton Athletic in the summer and has so far made 19 appearances and scored one goal.

The 29 year old started his career at Chelsea and during his time at the club had a spell on loan at Torquay United, where he made 10 appearances and scored one goal. He then signed for Bournemouth, where he made 193 appearances and scored 24 goals between 2006 and 2011 before signing for Charlton.

During his time at Charlton he had spells on loan at Swindon Town, where he made 10 appearances and scored two goals, a spell at Gillingham where he made 17 appearances and scored one goal and then a spell at Pompey at the end of last season, where he made seven appearances and scored five goals. During his three years at Charlton, Hollands made 57 appearances and scored seven goals for the club.

[/vc_tab]The two clubs have only ever met on two occasions at Fratton Park, with Pompey winning both matches. The first meeting was in the 1958/59 season in the FA Cup with Pompey running out 4-1 winners.

The two sides also met last season in League Two, with Pompey winning 1-0 with Jake Jervis getting the only goal of the game.[/vc_tab]Stanley have gone two games without a win after losing to Exeter and drawing with Yeovil in the FA Cup.

They sit 13th in League Two, still only five points outside the play-off positions.

Pompey have had an inconsistent season so far, sitting in 12th place in the League Two table with 26 points from their first 19 games. They have an excellent home record, winning six, drawing two and losing one of their nine home matches so far this season.

In their last match they suffered a 3-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers but they won their last gome game 3-0 against Morecambe.[/vc_tab]
