All the important information ahead of Stanley's clash with Ipswich Town

10 January 2020

Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman will be hoping his side can return to winning ways in Sky Bet League One when they face Ipswich Town at Portman Road tomorrow afternoon, 3pm kick-off.

The Reds went unbeaten in December before losing to Rochdale at home on New Year's Day, but Stanley did secure an away victory over Fleetwood Town in the Leasing.com Trophy on Tuesday night.

However the hosts suffered a 2-1 defeat in the same competition to Exeter City last Saturday, and The Blues have failed to win in the league since Tuesday 5th November.

In the dugout at Portman Road is Paul Lambert following his appointment in October 2018, making him the first ever manager to manage both Ipswich and Norwich City.

Ipswich currently sit 5th in the Sky Bet League One table, with the Reds occupying 17th place.

Striker Colby Bishop grabbed a brace earlier in the season as the Reds secured a 2-0 win over Ipswich at the Wham Stadium.

The 26-year-old has made 19 appearances for The Blues so far this season, with the defender having grabbed six goals and provided one assist for Paul Lambert's side.

Kayden Jackson - A very familiar face to Stanley fans, Jackson played a pivotal role in the club's Sky Bet League Two winning season of 2017/18. During his time with the Reds, Jackson made 50 appearances for the club and grabbed 15 goals and provided 16 goals. The 25-year-old departed the Wham Stadium in the summer of 2018 to join Ipswich for an undisclosed fee and Jackson has gone on to make 65 appearances to date for the club. The striker has found the net on seven occasions so far this season.

James Norwood - Norwood joined Ipswich in the summer of 2019 from Tranmere Rovers after he grabbed 90 goals for the club in 180 appearances. The striker's time with Tranmere also saw the club clinch consecutive promotions in both the National League Play-Off Final and the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final last season. Norwood's final season with Rovers also saw him win the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Year award. The 29-year-old has grabbed nine goals in 24 appearances so far this season for Ipswich.

Team News - Ipswich Town

Paul Lambert is expected to have former Red Janoi Donacien back from injury, after the full-back sustained a dead leg against Lincoln City on Sunday 29th December.

Team News - Stanley

Stanley manager John Coleman is hopeful that Colby Bishop will be back available for selection, with the striker having returned to training yesterday following a back injury.

Winger Jordan Clark also sat out the Leasing.com Trophy win over Fleetwood Town, and Coleman confirmed that the 26-year-old missed out with a slight hamstring strain.

Inside The Dressing Room

Stanley midfilder Joe Pritchard admits that he has enjoyed operating as a winger for the Reds so far this season.

"I've never really played in wide positions before as I've always played in the centre of midfield.

"I'm learning the role, but I think it does suit the way I play and I've really enjoyed it this season."

Ipswich 4 Stanley 1

Zanzala penalty not enough as Reds undone by three first half goals

11 January 2020

Accrington Stanley suffered a 4-1 loss at promotion-chasing Ipswich Town.

The Reds had beat the Tractorboys earlier in the season at the Wham Stadium but couldn’t do the double over Paul Lambert’s side.

Ipswich charged into a three-goal lead by half-time, Offrande Zanzala fired home an 86th minute penalty for the Reds but then Will Keane slotted home the fourth.

Stanley struggled to create chances in the first half as Ipswich took charge.

On 12 minutes, former Red Kayden Jackson, whose goals helped Stanley win the League Two title in 2018, got on the end of Oliver Norwood’s cross and slid home the opener.

One-time Tranmere striker Norwood had a great chance to make it two soon after but mis-hit his strike in the six yard box.

He made his next chance count on 29 minutes when a ball over the top landed at his feet, Norwood ran forward and chipped the ball over Joe Bursik.

Norwood had another chance but fired wide and then keeper Bursik did superbly well to deny Jackson a second, saving with his legs after the striker raced through one-one-one with the goalie on 42 minutes.

However two minutes later Alan Judge got the ball in the box from Luke Chambers and he slotted home.

Stanley came out stronger after the break and John Coleman made two changes before the hour mark, with Wilson Carvalho injured and swapped for Zanzala and Aji Alese on for Joe Pritchard.

Ipswich were still dangerous with Judge having a couple of chances while Dion Charles tried his luck from distance but it was over the bar.

Seamus Conneely’s long range effort was deflected wide while Charles had a great chance to get one back on 84 minutes when he got the ball unmarked around 10 yards out but it was blocked.

Zanzala raced into the area and was fouled with the Reds were awarded a penalty on 86 minutes. Striker Zanzala opted to take it and slotted home the spot kick for his eighth goal of the season.

There was time for a fourth for Ipswich as, in the 92nd minute, Stanley failed to clear their lines and sub Keane charged forward and tucked the ball home at the near post.
