Oldham Athletic 0-3 Stanley

Stanley go top of Group B with a 3-0 win away at Oldham

8 October 2019

Accrington Stanley booked their place in the next round of the Leasing.com Trophy with a 3-0 win away at Oldham Athletic as the Reds found the net through goals from Sadou Diallo, Offrande Zanzala and Jordan Clark with Dylan Fage being given a red card for the hosts in first half added time.

Both sides came into the game having won their first game of a Group B, but the game took a while to get going, with the first real chance resulting in Stanley’s opening goal.

Clark played the ball to Diallo before the midfielder absolutely rocketed a strike into the top corner to open the scoring and grab his first goal for the club since joining on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Stanley’s winger almost grabbed a goal for himself on 39 minutes as he curled an effort towards the far corner, but Oldham goalkeeper Gregor Zabret did well to deny his effort at goal.

Minutes later and Stanley were awarded a penalty after Lamine Kaba Sherif was bundled over, with striker Zanzala then grabbing his second goal in as many games as he slotted his penalty calmly past Zabret.

Kaba Sherif was involved again minutes later as he was fouled strongly by Fage, leaving the referee no choice but to show the Oldham player a red card for the offence.

The second half started in a similar way to the first, with the first real chance coming on 62 minutes when Christopher Missilou found himself through on goal, but the midfielder fired his shot wide of Toby Savin’s post.

Stanley’d third came four minutes from time as substitute Dion Charles and Clark combined well, before the latter chipped Zabret to secure Stanley’s progression to the next round.

The Reds’ final game in Group B is against Liverpool Under-21s at the Wham Stadium on Tuesday 29th October, 7.45pm kick-off.
